McDonald’s Corporation is the leading fast food retailer in the world offering various food products, soft drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages. The corporation was founded in 1940 by Richard Dick J. McDonald and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. It was incorporated in 1955 after Ray Croc joined. For the year ending 2022, McDonald's Corporation had 40,275 stores in more than 100 countries, 95% of them franchised. Preliminary revenues for the year 2023 are so far estimated at $23.41 Billion.
McDonald’s is the largest fast food company in the world (Forbes, 2023). The company’s vision is to offer the best experience to everyone that is to say its employees, customers and the society in which they operate. A number of approaches have been used in the quest to achieve this vision but on top of them lies people being put at the centre of everything. The restaurant chain recognizes that people perform more efficiently when they are comfortable in their workplaces. Therefore the company tries their level best to ensure that it provides the right working environment for its employees.
McDonald's is looking for people who are committed to delivering excellent and outstanding service to the company and to the customers. To achieve this goal, the company has established the essential skills and behaviours that applicants must demonstrate. For instance, each position has a specific job description that describes the duties and responsibilities and also it offers a person specification that outlines personal skills and competencies that people must have in order to work for the company.
McDonald's delegates the hiring of hourly-paid staff to each restaurant. To attract suitable candidates for these roles, McDonald's advertises them in various ways. The main method is to display the vacancies in the restaurant itself. Other methods include using local job centres, career fairs and other facilities in the community. The hiring material should be clear, effective and targeted at the right audience.
