If there are no constructive and inventive contributions from the people within an organization, it is likely to fail or rather not be successful. For an organization to attain its set goals and objectives, it needs to employ people that possess the essential skills, qualifications, and knowledge. While recruiting its employees, an organization must bear in mind its future prospects. 
    Recruitment and selection are vital aspects of HRM as they play significant roles when it comes to achieving a competitive advantage for an organization on the market. At present times, companies are becoming more concerned about the people they let into their business. They do this because they are concerned about having the right people at the right time (Lanz, 1988).  The quest for new workers is an important part for employees not only in companies where much emphasis is put on the HR policy. Employers always aim at hiring the most suitable candidate not only with qualifications but one who will blend in easily with the rest of the workers. Choosing the right person from a pool of applicants is one of the most important factors that lead to the success of an organization. In order to achieve this, the employer is obliged to pay maximum attention during the recruitment and selection process. Recruitment and selection is the process of procuring human resources into organizations. It can also be defined as the art of determining and obtaining potential employees for a vacant position in an organization. Recruitment and selection processes are the procedures taken into account by an organization to find suitable applicants to occupy a vacant position.

    1.0 INTRODUCTION


    HRM is the process through which the manager of an organization recruits, selects, trains, and develops an effective employee team for the business. Human resource management involves employees’ features and performance in an organization or a business. It may also be defined as the strategic approach used in procuring, developing, and maintaining a highly skilled workforce to effectively attain an organization's goals through a distinctive set of integrated employment policies, programs, and practices.

    One of the key functions of Human Resource Management is to recruit and select the best talent for the organization. Recruitment and selection are two interrelated and interdependent processes that aim to attract, assess, and hire qualified candidates for various positions. Recruitment and selection processes are the procedures taken into account by an organization to find suitable applicants to occupy a vacant position.

    The recruitment process is one in which an organization is presented with a number of potential candidates to choose from in order to occupy a vacant position in an organization. This process looks like an easy one but it takes a lot of skill and time to choose the right talent at the right place and time. This process is very significant to Human Resource Management. It involves identifying the job requirements, advertising the vacancy, sourcing candidates, screening applications, and inviting shortlisted candidates for further assessment. 

    The selection process refers to the steps involved in selecting a qualified candidate to occupy an open position in a business organization. It comes in after the recruitment plan has been drawn.  It involves conducting various tests, interviews, and assessments to evaluate the candidates' skills, knowledge, abilities, personality, and fit with the organization's culture and values. Selection can be done based on objective criteria or subjective criteria depending on the nature and level of the job.
