- You are a manager working for Smith Co Ltd. a multinational corporation dealing exclusively with sanitizer manufacturing with 20 branches around the world. Explain the various functions you perform and roles you need to play as a manager. (Apply Fayol’s, Mintzberg’s and Stewarts concepts while mentioning the functions and roles). Also explain any three challenges with examples you have faced during this pandemic and the contemporary management theories adopted to mitigate this issue. (20 marks)
- Kurt Lewin proposes that whenever driving forces are stronger than restraining forces, the status quo or equilibrium will change. Explain this statement in light of a change (in policy, procedure) you would like to bring in Smith Co Ltd. Apply the force field analysis which integrates with Lewin’s three stage theory of change as you work towards changing the status quo. Also elaborate on how you can create an ethical climate while initiating this change. (20 marks)
- Smith Co Ltd. wants to venture into manufacturing masks of various types foreseeing a surge in demand for the former. You are asked to conduct an internal analysis (use at least two tools) to develop strategic planning objectives to sustain and grow your business. You are also supposed to explain to the top management the importance of scenario planning to decrease income volatility. (20 marks)
- During this COVID period, work from home is the watch word. What leadership style and motivational techniques would you like to adopt to enhance employee work productivity at this point of time. Also elaborate on communication, negotiation and performance appraisal strategies you will adopt to ensure and sustain a satisfied and motivated work force in the company. (20 marks)

INTRODUCTION
Effective management is very fundamental to organizational success since their ability to achieve their goals and objectives can only be done through coordinated efforts of members. Management at its most basic is thus about ‘making things happen’ (Mullins 2016, p.350). From the top echelons of the organization where corporate strategy is set, down to the lower management levels focussed on functional strategy, the nature and process of management remain the same to all levels or functions carried out within an organization. In other words, the activities (functions and roles) remain applicable to managers across different levels of the organization as shown below;

In the following sections, the report will hence first examine the different managerial functions and roles, followed by application of the process of change to Smith Co Ltd. The third and fourth questions will address some of the tools used for strategic planning before looking at leadership styles.
