1.0 INTRODUCTION
What is Human Resource Management?
Human Resource Management refers to that function that encompasses all the activities related to managing people in an organization. This includes not only the tasks performed by the Human Resources department, such as recruitment, training, performance appraisal, compensation and benefits, and employee relations among others, but also the roles and responsibilities of every manager who supervises, motivates, develops, and retains employees in an organization. Therefore, Human Resources Management can be viewed as both a field of expertise for specialists who have the knowledge and skills to handle human resources issues and a set of practices for all managers who need to deal with people as a key resource for organizational success.
What is organizational psychology in HRM?
Organizational psychology refers to the scientific study of human behavior in the workplace. It applies psychological theories and methods to understand and improve the performance, motivation, well-being, and satisfaction of employees and organizations (Simon & Rachel, 2015). Organizational psychologists help organizations to recruit, select, train, evaluate, and develop their human resources. They also help employees cope with stress, conflict, change, and diversity in the work environment (Riumin, D., 2020).
This paper aims to explore the role of psychology in HRM, its objectives, its relationship with Human Resource Management, and its contribution to Human Resource Management's daily operations. Psychology in HRM is the application of psychological theories and methods to understand and improve human behavior and performance in the workplace. Psychology in HRM helps Human Resource Management to design and implement effective policies and practices that enhance employee motivation, satisfaction, well-being, and productivity. Psychology in HRM also supports Human Resource Management in dealing with various organizational challenges, such as diversity, conflict, change, and stress.
