1.0 INTRODUCTION
ASDA is the largest grocery and general merchandise retailer in the UK. The company has its headquarters in Leeds, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. It conducts its business through various store formats such as supercenters, superstores, living stores, supermarkets, petrol filling stations, and depots across the UK. The company offers a wide range of fresh food, beverages, grocery, bakery products, health and beauty items, clothing, home, leisure, and entertainment goods. As of 2019, ASDA had approximately 633 retail stores in the UK. This report is going to examine Strategic Human Resource Management at ASDA.
Strategic HRM refers to the general approach to managing human resources that is consistent with the aims and objectives of the organization. It is primarily concerned with long-term goals and macro-concerns about the structure, quality, culture, values, commitment, and matching resources to obtain the goals of an organization.
Strategic human resource management is primarily responsible for connecting employees with the long-term goals of an organization. This process involves aligning organizational goals with the existing human resources. SHRM addresses all the activities that affect the conduct and performance of individuals in trying to observe the strategic needs of an organization.
In ASDA, there are a number of strategies used to attract potential employees that are to work hard towards achieving the organizational goals.
Among the strategies it uses are;
