1.0 INTRODUCTION
Corporate Social Responsibility refers to the general beliefs held by citizens that modern businesses have social responsibilities beyond their duty to investors and stockholders (Visser et al 2010). Over the years, the business community has developed an interest in CSR mostly because of what it means to them in practice. Business experts like Porter have associated the concept to competitive advantage, businesses today have to invest in CSR as part of their business strategy in order to be more competitive (Visser et al 2010). In today’s world, many big businesses and organizations have been put under pressure from several stake holders to engage in social and environmental responsibility and G4S is among those companies. Brands are in today’s world being used by stakeholders as hostage because associating a brand with irresponsible activities can have a notable effect on the brand value.
G4S the world leader in security solutions has had its name tarnished in the public eye after series of scandals in its activities. Other than being the security solutions global leader, the company is subcontracted by several governments for their dirty work all the way from prison management to the deportation of migrants. This essay is going to analyze G4S’s activities in relation to Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).
