INTRODUCTION
Over the last few years, the regulatory environment governing human resources has escalated globally, most especially in industrialized countries. In order to balance the power dynamics between employee and employer relationships and to also limit the degree to which managers can abuse their power to exploit and unfairly treat employees, a wide range of regulations have been put in place by governments across the world (Pilbeam and Corbridge 2010).
Regulation plays a role in almost every area of HRM from managing working time, recruitment, determining the rights to leave work, dealing with trade unions, and selection to arrangements for paying people, ensuring a decent level of health and safety as well as managing dismissals and retirement (Torrington 2017).
But although such regulations help raise employee standards, make work more attractive, reduce turnover, improve individual performance, and encourage later retirement, they are considered a pain by most employers. Regulations add significant, unnecessary costs while limiting the freedom of managers to run their businesses in a way they deem fit. It has also been argued that the time managers spend dealing with employment law could be put to better use, and thus a time-wasting and revenue-consuming exercise (Torrington 2017).
In the following section, the assignment examines UAE employment regulations and how they impact Easy jet’s HR policies.
